Background

Also known as an “analyst day,” an investor day is a public meeting, where presentations are made by the CEO and other VIPs of a company in front of a live audience, for the purpose of updating the public on the health and direction of the company.

Challenge

Companies need a publicly accessible place where they can display event information, add a press release, presentation, agenda, speaker bio, registration link, disclaimer, FAQ and other information related to Investor Day.
The solution is to create a microsite where all the necessary information would be placed, and the user could read and register for the event.

Competitive Research

I worked on this project together with my team, we individually searched the internet for similar templates as well as microsites with different scrolling methods and features. We also interviewed clients who hosted an analyst/investor day at a company I work with or who wanted to display their analyst/investor day separately from their investor relations website. We as a design team highlighted some insights.
Insights:
  • #1 Content is presented as powerpoint slides/pdf pages
For each example searched, the information is displayed separately, whether scrolling horizontally or vertically.
  • #2 Content menu helps you determine where you are
This can be a progress bar menu at the top or bottom, a traditional menu horizontally or a side menu vertically.
  • #3 Sharing an event is a useful thing
Some speakers, companies or individuals want t,o share the event with others, this option can be very useful for the speaker or company's message.

Design & Prototype

After all the research and presentations with the team, we decided to create our own version of the template with different features. Later, we will decide and test which one best suits the needs of our customers. Below I have presented my prototype version of a template.

Outcome

Our team members presented their ideas and decided to take a similar route to this template which I have come up with. The key differences were: to use the always open side menu in the template; instead of scrolling horizontally through the screens, we chose to change the screen by simply clicking a menu or button link.

Learnings

  • We decided not to use a hidden menu since this is a microsite that is not used very often. Many icons without any text are useful to the user once they are familiar with the page or application.
  • Horizontal scrolling is intuitive when a bar or other horizontal element indicates it. That's why it wasn't a solution for us at that moment, we decided to remove it.
